14.03.2023: Industrialists seek relief from CGST department

The Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department should make a temporary provision to accept the appeal of a taxpayer by accepting a partial amount till the constitution of the GST tribunal.

Industrialists have urged the CGST department to accept the appeal of a taxpayer by accepting 20 per cent of the total payable amount.

Tarun Vyas, secretary, Association of Industries Madhya Pradesh (AIMP)said, “The need is to expedite the process of setting up the GST appellate tribunal. Also until the process is done, the appeals should be accepted by the department and for this a temporary provision should be made.”

CGST and Central Excise, Indore had called a meeting of industrialists and tax professionals on Monday to seek suggestions and feedback on various norms under GST.

Industrialists said the department should take 20 per cent of the total payable amount from the assesses and accept the appeal of the taxpayer as a temporary arrangement.

Industry players also suggested to the department that local officials should be authorised for verifying documents for new GST registration.
Vyas said, “GST registration should be made hassle-free and smooth. For this, the verification of documents should be done at local levels by the regional office.”

Industries and tax professionals were also urged to eradicate delicacy in issuing notices. Experts said if the state has issued a notice which the assess has presented in an investigation then the assess should not be slapped with another notice from the central.

Industry players also urged the department that the cancellation of the GST registration should not be done from the back date.
