Chennai: The Tamil Nadu govt on Monday urged the BJP-led Union govt to exempt cooperative products and services from GST.

Tamil Nadu minister for cooperation K R Periyakaruppan called on Union minister Amit Shah, who also holds the additional portfolio of co-operation, in Delhi and submitted a memorandum with a host of demands.

These included the exemption of GST for cooperative products and services, exemption of IT for primary agricultural cooperative credit societies, and exemption from TDS deduction, among others.

According to the memorandum, “The cooperative societies are engaged in activities like processing and value addition agricultural produce, manufacturing of agricultural implements, renting of agricultural implements under primary agricultural cooperative credit services (PACSS). The product and services of the PACSS shall hence be exempted from GST allowing the cooperatives to flourish.”

The TN govt also urged to include cooperative banks in the panel of banks for Union govt loan schemes, and revamping the infrastructure of the institutes of cooperative management, among other requests.
