The state cabinet on Monday approved the draft Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024. To maintain consistency between the provisions of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, and the Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, it is necessary to amend the Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, said officials.
“This decision will help reduce the difficulties faced by taxpayers and the Goods and Services Tax department.
Provisions will be made to allow the credited amount of input tax for any returns filed under Section 39 up to November 30, 2021, for the financial years 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2020-21. Additionally, there are provisions for conditional waiver of interest and penalties concerning certain demand notices for the financial years 2017-18, 2018-19, and 2019-20,” said a press release.
