27.01.2024: CAIT seeks review of GST in Union budget

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) urged Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to comprehensively review the Goods and Services Tax (GST) law to simplify it.

Urging the FM to pay special attention to the business community in the Union budget to be presented on February 1, CAIT has proposed the establishment of GST coordination committees at the district level for addressing the taxation problems.

“Going by PM's One Nation, One Tax policy, we have proposed creation of a special income tax slab for businesses similar to that for companies,” said CAIT, national secretary, Suresh Sonthalia, on Thursday.

“The CAIT has proposed to introduce a single licence for businesses, simplifying the current complex licensing system,” he said. CAIT has also urged immediate announcement of e-commerce policy and implementation of the National Retail Trade policy. “We have also recommended to form a Digital Payment Promotion Board,” Sonthalia said.
