31.03.2023: Significant taxpayers yet to file returns

The Central GST office in Surat has issued an advisory to taxpayers to clear past and present dues before March 31. “Drawing the attention of all the CGST taxpayers, trade and industry associations, chartered accountants and tax practitioners and associations, as the end of the financial year, approaches, all taxpayers must clear GST dues of the present and past financial years. Data analysis by CGST, Surat has suggested that a significant number of taxpayers have not filed statutory returns by discharging their due tax liability,” the advisory states.

In the advisory, it is stated that a “Number of taxpayers have also not yet discharged their due interest liabilities which have arisen due to delayed payment of GST. For delayed payment of GST an interest of 18% is charged.”

CGST Surat office has requested trade and industry associations to guide and facilitate the process of filing GST returns and paying applicable dues.
