BHUBANESWAR: Kendu leaf workers on Friday staged a rally at Lower PMG here protesting Goods and Services Tax (GST) on Kendu leaves. They have been demanding withdrawal of this tax on Kendu leaves for the benefit of the people engaged in the sector.
The agitators under the aegis of Odisha Kendu Leaf Workers Association came in a procession starting from Ram Mandir Square to Lower PMG here seeking fulfilment of their demands. The workers led by association president Bijay Mohanty submitted a memorandum to chief minister Naveen Patnaik to take up the case with the Centre.
Mohanty said Kendu leaf workers face loss due to GST on Kendu leaves. “We want the Centre to withdraw the tax as soon as possible,” he added.
